KATHERINE HARRIS : an exhibitor and teacher of machine embroidery, (Malvern Hills College, Worcs) inspiring students to get their City & Guild examinations so that they have a groundwork to continue to work and create on their own. Katherine's pictures are very distinctive; she has developed her own style through love of old architecture, crumbling stone and patchy paintwork. The pieces are created through machine embroidery on hand-made paper worked with pieces of material and thread. See her work on video in "ARCHITEXTURAL IMAGES: Moon Shadows;" (it was called Moon Shadows because you'll see some of the 1999 eclipse of the sun) you'll find out how to make paper, how to go about creating your own designs. It's very exciting! Not difficult! and you really will find your own style if you follow Katherine's teaching.
In 2001, Katherine is working on a commission of a wall hanging of Bromyard for Hereford County Council. She is still teaching mature students at Malvern and has been given residencies in two primary schools - which takes up a lot of her time preparing inspirational activities for youngsters.
